A Proposal

I'd like to start by saying that I truly enjoy that this blog is becoming a forum in which we can discuss our issues and questions concerning the identity/definition of our collective. Reading all of our notions of the collective and about the things that we each want to see happen has been a very educational (albeit redundant) experience. I think that this blog and our conversations online are pivotal in our development since it's very difficult at this time to articulate ideas in such a large group in person.

That being said, our conversations are merely talk, and talk is cheap. We can discuss what we think a collective means, who we are as a group and whatever for as long as we want but that won't make anything happen. To me perhaps everyone showing concern is just the first step in a few things that we can do leading up to the show.

I propose that we use the maybe month and a half(?) we have left before the show to create art which explores our collective identity. Who are we? What are we about? Why are we all together? How can we come together to create great works and push boundaries? These aren't things that we always have to plan out but can answer through full on immersion with each other. I've come up with a few activities which we can perform as a group if everyone is down, one which I think will play a very important role in understand the sheer size of our collective is to become completely inseparable for a full day (or maybe 12 hours, this can be negotiated). I propose that after a month and a half of doing/ making things together as a group, we put all of these experiments on display in charm city art space and this is what we present as a show. Because of our unique tastes and talents it will be impossible for any of it to look bad.

There seems to be a lot of skepticism in our group but I believe that it mostly comes out of a fear of failing. I believe that if what we are all saying is true and that we have become a source of support and inspiration for each other there will be no problem in creating a show within a month and a half. We each bring something great to the table, and so together the possibilities are endless. Fuck it you guys, lets stop thinking and just do something already.

I hope this wasn't redundant.

Max I think that you said it all in your last sentence- we just need to start making and doing and sharing. I think that once we really get to creating and talking with each other about our ideas and our art we will all be surprised by the other thoughts and projects it will yield and then WHO KNOWS where they will take us!! It seems like we genuinely want this to work and to really form and develop into something great for us to share with other fiends and the general populous, but for whatever reason (fear, embarrassment, laziness, whateva) we haven't done it- which is fine!! I think that we need to stop worrying about all that we haven't done and, again, just git down to biznass already.

i think most of the doubt comes from anxiety. because all those questions you were asking about how we think as a collective also pertains to the questions we are asking about ourselves as artists. not to make a generalization, at least thats how i feel. in this crucial point of our development as individual artists, it's good to have an environment like ours, and we all develop in different paces and ways but its still simultaneous in a way? get it? yeah.
