Hey guys!

I just wanted to update everyone on a few projects going on right now. With the weather being what it is it would have been difficult for us all to meet last weekend but if anyone is down for meeting up I would be more than happy to walk through the snow. There are a few collaborations going on which I think are going to be pretty cool.

Currently Ben and I are working on a project exploring our own egocentricity/narcissism/exhibitionism. We have a game that we are playing that has manifested itself in the form of a blog, deixis.tumblr.com. There is also photo series where we have document each time we see each other, be it by chance or a planned meeting. This series will culminate in a news spread of some sort, we aim to show the series in Open Space's print show. Hopefully this collaborative will culminate in a show of sorts once we have a larger body of work.

Today, Zack and I are going to be working on two videos involving a metronome. We hope to put together some sort of dvd or digital compilation involving these pieces and invite others to work on something involving a metronome as well, or just addressing the passing of time in general.

Finally, if you haven't heard, Margo is working on a proposal for a show which would be installed in the Middendorf gallery. The show would potentially include works by Peggy, Nick, Lauren and I, and we have all been discussing with her similar threads between all of our work. The show seems to revolve around ideas of the domestic and the mundane at first, but the works she proposes to exhibit work together to reveal another level of understanding, that we haven't exactly been able to articulate yet. People should talk to Margo about it because the more we talk about it the easier it will be to articulate the idea to the jury (Kristine Woods and Valeska) and the more likely we'll get a show.

All this being said, I encourage everyone to get together even if its working on smaller things, or just talking about work like we always do! I know that we've been talking about doing some sort of split/collaborative zine stuff again and I think that now is the perfect time to get started on that while we're snowed in. Lets keep each other posted on things!

hey, did we ever print more calendar zines? I would really like a copy (even if it doesn't have the screenprinted cover. I just need a calendar for 2010).

also, I hope we're gonna start shit up again next semester. I know this semester/the show was draining, but we should perhaps think about doing some sort of simple zine during or soon after break, just so we don't forget about psychic friends!!!!

People come look at the box! I need some help to reattach the door to it. It's all taped up etc but I'm going to go now to buy some more colors of duct tape just for looks (it looks sort of post-apocalyptic right now). The front of the box has a little square of sheetrock on the front that I think we should gesso and paint something fun on. Also it works pretty good right now but it would be really great if we could buy another leaf blower. The first one was still within the budget of money we had from mix tapes but to get a second I'd need like two dollars from everyone (the blower costs $30).

I need to make a little flag holder thing and also for that I need some fishing line I'm sure someone has that to donate to the cause.

We need Mel/Mitchell/Nick's dealio.

We need to hang the resume.

We need the letters.

Bettina needs to fix the pink dudes on that one painting.

We need to print the calendar zines.

We need to decide on comment book/PF acronym book etc.

We need someone's headphones or if exhibitions will provide them for the youtube monitor.

hey bros. i've been working on the title and how it'll look and i thought of using famous logos and fonts to write ours in? i did a sketch for one of diet coke. the FREEPIZZAFREEBEER bit is drawn in neon arching bubble letters. i was tihnking that psychic friends would be on the top, dare to dream in the middle, and FREEPIZZAFREEBEER on the bottom but bigger than the last two lines.

also i am a bit confused on this screenprinting biznas. is it true that we CAN screenprint? i saw mitch the other day and he say YAY but i remember someone at our last meeting saying NAY. but maybe im crazy. if we can screenrprint, this would be easy for me to draw, burn, and then let er rip. let me know what you people are thinking!

ZINE FUN!

Here are a few things for zines (I know it's a lot but please bear with me):

CALENDAR ZINE:

Right now I have 14 images from 11 people.

MITCHELL AND BEN,
I have not gotten stuff from you guys. If you want to have stuff in this, send it to me within the next two days.

I will start working up a template for the calendar this week.

Questions:

1. Does anyone else want to be involved in choosing the order of it?

2. We have 14 images right now. If we use seven sheets per calendar, we can make it a 13 month calendar and would have to edit out one image. If we get more images, we can use eight sheets and make a 15 month. a 13 month would go from November '09 to November '10 a 15 month would go from November '09 to January '11. Do people want to make more images or edit down? If we want to edit, does anyone else want to be involved in this process?

3. How many do we want to make? Making 100 will cost roughly $40, making 150 will cost roughly $55. Where will this money come from? Will it come out of the money we already have, out of pocket, or a mixture of both?

4. COVER: What do we want the cover to look like? How do we want it to be printed? Laser? Screenprint? Combo??? What kind of paper? (I'd suggest scott index because it's so cheap and easy to either screen print or laser print on)

5. It would be cool to make up holidays/special days that appear throughout the calendar a-la slingshot. What do people think of this? Maybe we can start a thread of days/dates in the comments for this post? We'd have to be done with this soon for it to happen though!

6. Anyone want to volunteer to help print and assemble these? It's going to be a big job for one person. If you know how to use a laser printer, please help with printing, If not, we totally need help assembling. If we decide to screen print covers, we'll need screen printing people to help with that.

Remember, this has to be done by the opening so we're getting down to the wire...

Cartoon Characters From Memory:

All of the images are scanned. I need to bitmap them and lay it out. Hopefully this will happen this week/next weekend.

Questions:

1. What size is this going to be? I need to know this before I do layout (we talked about 18x24 and I think that size works well. is everyone cool with this?)

2. Is everyone still cool with the gridded pages printed one color and jumble/poster printed as a gradient layout on the back of the sheet?

3. What kind of paper? we need something cheap and fairly large that folds well and can be screen printed on. Any suggestions?

4. Who'll be helping Max print this?

5. How many do we want to make? It's hard to say what the cost will be without knowing the paper or ink. I think 100 is reasonable, but what does everyone else think?

6. Cover: I know we had talked about doing the picture of Garfield's face melting. Who has this picture? Do we still want to do this?

Finally
These are the only two zines we have content for. Do we want to put out one or two more? It'll be some work, but I think we can do it. Any ideas for another zine or two? (preferably something that will go fairly quickly)

Here are some of the things we discussed last night.
For anyone who was not there, please read over and if you have any questions just ask us or something.

The instillation date for the show is November 8th which is roughly three weeks away.
We need to get our asses in gear and this is a small outline for (a few of) the things we need to get done before the show.

NICK PEELOR LOOK INTO THE NEON PMA THING! Tell us how much it will be and we will try and see if we have enough or if we each need to throw in a few more bucks.

Things Scheduled to Do:

This Friday night: grab some beers and noodles and make the pasta bead curtain!
7:00 if we can or around that time or something.
Saturday morning: Filming Neil's devil goat recreation. EVERYONE MUST ATTEND!
11:00 A.M. in the Annex field. Wake everyone up and we need to be started by noon.
It shouldn't take more than an hour and a half.
Towards the end of the month we will be working constantly on trying to finish the zines. Carey needs help from everyone to get a good assembly line going.

- Nick and Carey air chamber plan:

Nick found plastic that requires a hot knife to cut
Still need metal grates (might use wood instead)
Estimated price: $60 - Two Pieces of Plastice, Hot Knife to Cut, Free- Fans, Free- Milk Crates, $20 Wood---> Around $100 ($10 Each)
We're using the $85 from the box sets to pay for a large amount of this project so actually we're gonna each pay like 2 bucks.

- Mitchell got forms for a pedestal and monitors from exhibitions! yay!

RADICAL (book fair)

I think I'll be tabling at the zine bazaar at the radical book fair on Friday the 25th. I'll be selling my own shit, but I'd also like to sell some PF shit too. I know we have some complete mixtapes hanging around somewhere. Do we have anything else? It's from 12-6 and I get out of class at 3. If anyone wants to take the 12-3 shift, I can come down afterward and do the other three hours... If not, I can just do 3-6. Let me know!

*also, whoever has the mixtape zines (I'm looking at you Maude and Bettina.) If we do decide to sell them, could you give them to me and I'll check for completeness and then hopefully sell some of those dudes.

+Bring two or more drawings of a cartoon character (or cereal mascot) from memory (on an 8 1/2" x11" or smaller piece of paper or scan these yourself and bring the file) for a 1/2 sized zine (do these in black marker, pen something like that, NO PENCIL)

+Also plans for the box will be done next week! (Do it!)

+At the meeting two weeks from now people will need to have their calendar zine drawings so start thinking about this!

So there's this collective called Mammalian Diving Reflex and they did this project where they trained kids to give people haircuts:

"Mammillian Diving Reflex's Haircuts by Children was an act that surpassed theoretical notions of the participatory viewer in situational or relational aesthetics. This Toronto based collective jumped through the city's bureaucratic hoops and organized training for a group of local school children between the ages of ten and twelve to become hairdressers for a day. Over the course of two afternoons, a fleet of underage stylists inhabited a local barbershop, as dozens of adults gave them free rein over their visage. The children undertook the task at hand with great sincerity, as aware as the subjects in the barber's chair that their actions essentially inverted socially normative child/ adult roles and behavior."

The Suits with Junk on 'em

So I've been researching unitard/tyvek suits etc and I'm starting to feel like may be it would just be too expensive to do any kind of unitards and the tyvek is just going to look weird. So may be making just pieces you could put on over your clothes like basically bra/underwear shaped stuff with penises/breasts/etc hanging off of it would be better and I can envision this working pretty well if someone wants multiple breasts so someone request that.

If people are weirded out by this idea may be we should scrap it. I definitely want to do something similar because I like the idea of something physically representing each of us in the gallery. Yeah may be let's discuss. Also Peggy I'm down to help you edit an explosion video whenever.

I kind of just want to make globe heads for everyone now.

friendship bracelets!

I was thinking about another project/idea while making beach friendship bracelets. I'm not sure how this could become a 'group project' but I thought it'd be cool if it could be part of the show. basically, I want to make a whole bunch of friendship bracelets and have them available at the opening. anyone can take one, but only if they take a picture of themselves wearing the bracelet and then send it to me (perhaps someone could take pictures at the opening?) I'll then have a collection of photos of my new "friends". any thoughts? is this a stupid idea? does anyone else wanna make a ton of friendship bracelets with me?
